The flooding which followed that in Ballater and Braemar was at its worst along the River Don. Our hosue escaped being flooded but it was a close-run thing. Things are getting colder now so perhaps a more usual winter pattern will emerge.

Looking forward to seeing you again when you re-establish Basecamp 2 :o)

Warm wishesIan Johnstonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14130778756061507141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4597424458147017716.post-15552327191510938132016-01-09T21:45:47.831+00:002016-01-09T21:45:47.831+00:00Ian, we've been away from this medium for the ...Ian, we've been away from this medium for the past week or so but had heard about the rains and flooding from folks where we were living, in Angus and in Fife. Had no idea that the devastating consequences were felt so significantly up your way. We will be back, in a couple of months, and up your way. Please know we send good vibes and thoughts... I'm more used to Hurricanes being given names, but I can see the sense in naming UK/Eire storms too. One thing I'm not sure of is the criteria for deciding whether a storm should be given a name - wind strength, barometric pressure or something else.....

Kind RegardsIan Johnstonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14130778756061507141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4597424458147017716.post-81557610559986518962016-01-05T20:12:16.283+00:002016-01-05T20:12:16.283+00:00It seems so Dan - perhaps El Nino is partly the ca...It seems so Dan - perhaps El Nino is partly the cause, but it's really intense weather

Kind RegardsIan Johnstonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14130778756061507141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4597424458147017716.post-22156371113393582702016-01-05T20:11:13.058+00:002016-01-05T20:11:13.058+00:00Good to hear Allison - I read that there's a p...Good to hear Allison - I read that there's a plan in place for a piece of temporary roadway to reconnect the village to the rest of Aberdeenshire; fingers crossed it goes well

Kind RegardsIan Johnstonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14130778756061507141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4597424458147017716.post-21766883464304739112016-01-05T13:04:29.837+00:002016-01-05T13:04:29.837+00:00That's a great little hill. Found myself wondering if adopting the American method of naming each storm recently might even be to assist insurance claims as winter storm damage seems to be on the increase year by year and a name (Frank) rather than "that big storm on the (date)or it might have been (date)" is much easier to remember months or even years later.
Ballater is a great town to visit and hopefully the area will recover quickly enough to take full advantage of the 2016 summer season.
blueskyscotlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09373718369702364265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4597424458147017716.post-81870378092407345342016-01-05T02:30:40.648+00:002016-01-05T02:30:40.648+00:00Very sad.
